About me:
I started reviewing for DVDShrine.com in 2002, a site much like DVD Town in the quality of reviews and the diverse opinions of the staff. When it became apparent that the site was not going to survive, I was contacted by a wide variety of websites looking to put me to work. When (Site Editor) Yunda Eddie Feng contacted me to offer a position here at DVDTown.com, I initially decided that I had little time to dedicate to reviewing, since I was rarely home for a period greater than three consecutive hours. But he had the great idea to write a column on a regular basis. Based on my strong opinions and dire need to express them, I grudgingly accepted. ;) A few months later, Eddie and the gang (That sounds like a great name for a band...) gave me a few studios to start reviewing for, and the rest is, as they say, history!
I am a graduate student at Penn State in State College, Pennsylvania, working on my Master's Degree in Communication Arts and Sciences with a focus on rhetoric.
I jumped on the DVD bandwagon back in 1998, and was able to expand my collection thanks to the great deals you could get, back in the day, from Reel.com or Bigstar, when you could get 3 DVDs free for every one you purchased.
At present I review DVDs from Paramount, Universal, and Dreamworks and the occasional freelance disc.
My Gear:
Sony 42" LCD RP, calibrated via Digital Video Essentials. Yamaha 5550 dts-ex capable receiver. JBL tower mains, Onkyo sub and rears, and a matching JBL center. The DVD Player is an upscaling Denon 1910 that's kept at 720p except for 4:3 movies, then it's kicked back to 480p.
